Fine Compost Mulch

Use the compost as a mulch around your plants. The compost mulch really retains moisture well so it cuts down on your watering. Compost not only feeds your plants it feeds your soil. Soil should be alive with a wide variety of beneficial microorganisms. Beneficial microbes both feed and protect the plants from disease causing microbes. Continual use of chemical fertilizers actually kills off these beneficial microbes. So revitalize both soil and plants and protect them against disease and drought.

Fine Compost

$29.50 per cubic yard for self haul.

Starting at $34.50 for delivery depending on where you are located.

Medium Compost

$25.50 per cubic yard for self haul.

Starting at $30.50 for delivery depending on where you are located.

Using Compost as a soil amendment.
Spread the compost over your existing soil and till it in at a 50/50 mixture. This adds organic material, nutrients and beneficial microbes to your gardens. It will also lighten up a heavy compacted soil.

Quality Assurance

Skagit Soils Inc is a type 3 permitted composting facility. We follow the Department of Ecology’s Composting Guidelines. We are also a member of the US Composting Councils Seal of Testing Assurance Program. This means we send a sample of our compost to a certified lab every other month for complete analysis. This is the only type of compost that the Washington State Department of Transportation will use. This assures you that you are getting the best compost for your project.

A little about “inerts” (non-organics) in the compost. The majority of the material we take in is clean green waste, but there is a small quantity of material that comes in with some contamination. This is mainly from restaurants and grocery stores. We tried to stop this material from coming in all together but we were stymied by contract obligations with Waste Management Inc. The municipalities that WMI has contracts with demand that they pick up from those businesses. We do our best to keep the compost as clean as possible, but no process is 100%. If you are worried about finding the occasional non-organic debris in your compost then we would suggest a non-recycled product.
